After enjoying Kobe and making a quick stop to see Himeji Castle, I set off for Naoshima Island.

Naoshima Island can be reached by stopping at Okayama Station, transferring to the local line and then by following trains for Uno (I believe one is called the uno line). The transfer is really easy in Chayamachi. Once in Uno, you can catch a ferry (once out of Station to the right then across the street). I was lucky enough to catch one of the last ferries before sunset, giving enough time to quickly explore. Although going to the island at that time was a little risky in hind sight. The way most do Naoshima is by taking a ferry over and the renting a bicycle to get around. If you arrive into Miyanoura Port, you will see two places for bicycle rental immediately. So probably better than going to Honamura, but I had no choice. The bicycle shops had all closed by the time I arrived so I was stuck walking, which truthfully wasn’t that bad.

I cut through the center of the island to get to the Benesse House, one of the more affordable art museums. The cool thing about Naoshima Island is that art is everywhere. Even on my walk in the middle of nowhere on the island I saw art.

After a little bit of running because I didn’t want to get stuck in the dark, I finally made it to Benesse House! And hate to say that I really didn’t have time to go in, but definitely do if you have the time! I was worried about catching the last ferry (and consequentially the last trains) so I headed down to what they are known for, the Kusama pumpkin on the dock.
I snapped a few pictures and caught the nicest sunset I’ve seen so far. After I pretty much ran to Miyanoura Port to make sure I caught the next ferry as the one I wanted had already left.

Once at the ferry dock I realized I had plenty of time, but then spent it figuring out how to get home as the trains were scare.
Finally after making a plan with the train schedule I miraculously made it back to Hiroshima! Now off to Mt. Fuji!
